SO I am getting tired of using song titles and lyrics as my titles. So I am trying my hand at creativity. I am sure I will be back to the usual by the next post.
Anways…so my newest blog obsession at the moment: Sea of Shoes. OMFG this girl is one amazing fashionista. I can’t stand it (in a good way). Her mother also has a blog called Atlantis Home. Together, they have the most incredible collection of shoes I have ever seen. I am so jealous! Such awesome shoes. It makes me want to run right out to Neimans and Barneys and feed my addiction, sadly, I do not make enough money to get myself a pair of $895 Miu Miu shoes, but still, a girl can dream. However, I am for sure going to be hitting up sales at all those stores. They have taught me that wearing past seasons, totally okay. And their clothes? Good lord. Amazing as well. And they wear things twice. And go thrifting. And sell stuff online. I want to be them! And their house? Beyond words. I want Judy (the mother) to come and decorate my apartment. Its flawless, simply flawless.

ZOMG where is popculturegrrl? Haha I’m here just busy. Boo. I hate when I don’t have time to write or be creative. Anyways, I have everything I need for my first collage…all about boots! Hooray! BUT I have to finish wrapping up some stuff (sending thank yous) from a huge Chicago NOW event a few weeks ago. I need to get those thank yous out before I do anything else. So working on them now.
A few things, I am kind of oddly excited for Tokio Hotel’s new album Humanoid because as you all know, I am apparently secretly a 15-year-old emo girl trapped in a 29-year-old woman’s body. I also bought the new La Roux and the new Gossip. Currently downloading that one, so haven’t had much of a listen. But the new La Roux is awesome. I love every song. Bulletproof is my fav. I also downloaded some of the songs from Glee: Somebody to Love and Maybe this Time. Do people watch that show? I went to highschool/was in show choir with the creator Ian Brennan. I hope he does a guest spot on it and sings. He has a great voice.
Anyways, not sure how I feel about Hillary Duff joining the cast of Gossip Girl. I’m also not sure how I am feeling about Gossip Girl this season. My favorite new shows right now are The Good Wife (CBS) and Glee (Fox). And I am enjoying FlashForward because I will follow JJ Abrams to any network with any show. The only thing, since its on Thursdays, along with Fringe, its a lot of thinking and paying attention in one night hahaha.
Castle is my favorite as well. Nathan Fillion is hawt. I think I would watch him read the phone book.
Reading: The Vampire Lastat by Anne Rice. Vampires done right, IMO.

Hello! So currently watching the Cubs, wishing it was winter, and trying to not be depressed about my current situation about still not having a job, despite lots of luck in the actual getting-an-interview department. Ho hum. Sometimes I just I do try to smile through the pain. I feel that’s a good solution, right? Gawd, I am so self-deprecating these days. But really, something good has to happen to me, right? Something has to work out. Pretty please with sugar on top?
Anywho, so yeah, to keep myself out of a funk that could be very very bad for my well-being, I am still trying to find that outlet through writing and art and the like. I decided that for real, no really, I am going to start my teen book series. And clean my apartment, which includes hanging up all my pictures and getting new ones, etc. I have this idea to cover the space around one closet door that has the mirror with postcards of famous people who I love. Right now, I have Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean. I need more before I can actually start hanging them up so it doesn’t look that weird. I am thinking I need some more musicians and of course more Audrey and Marilyn, because why not? Now, I just need to start collecting. Luckily, Beyond the Wall has tons…so I will have a plethora to choose from. I should also probably figure out just how many I actually need. But ehhhhh, I’m too lazy.
This afternoon after I actually tear myself away from the computer, I am going to go to this vintage store by my apartment called Haystack (get it, like finding a needle in a Haystack is like a great find, yes I know you are all smart enough to figure this out) and then maybe go to Land of the Lost. I don’t really want clothes (well yeah who am I kidding I always want clothes) but just things you know, like fun vintage-y stuff I can place around my house so people will be like OMG her apartment has the COOLEST stuff. You know, like an old typewriter, a dinette set, and maybe some whimsical salt-and-pepper shakers.
Tonight Mike and I are babysitting for Kourtnie while my sister and her husband celebrate their one-year anniversary at the James Hotel, where they got married. Kourtnie will be with them, so we will be at the hotel. I am excited because I love that place, and because I want some cheesecake lollies like nobodies business. Those things are amazing. Chocolate-covered cheesecake on a stick, yes please!
Last night Melissa and I worked on stuffing enveloped for letters for possible silent auction donors and had sushi from Matsuya. Yummm. I am addicted to the crazy horse roll. It’s yellow tail and tuna with bib lettuce, mayo and cucumbers, and is GIANT. But under $8. So you get a lot of food for cheap. And its just over all delcious. They are are a great sushi place for general sushi. Rise and Sushi X are my favorite for “trendy” sushi.
Alrighty, well enough about that. Let me know what you all think about my little postcard project. What kinds of projects has everyone been working on over the summer?
ta ta,

So recently, since the lay off, instead of throwing myself a pity party, I have a dance party. Lady GaGa usually does the trick. Seriously. I don’t think I will ever get sick of the song ‘Just Dance.” I wish I had seen her in concert when she was here. I heard it was amazing!
Anyways, SO, back to the grind. Now that I have time on my hands there is just no excuse for not writing on this thing. I mean how else am I going to become an Internet ‘it’ grrrrl right?! Right. So start leaving comments. Except if you are spamming me. I get liek a zillion ‘please moderate’ e-mails a day from spammers. Its beyond annoying. Or sometimes the comments get through and then things like Viagra and Cialis leave me comments. Awesome.
Tonight is Gossip Girl! Can we back track to last week for a second though. How fug was that dress that Serena wore to her mom’s party? For some reason, I feel like the wardrobe department always gets it right for Blair but its iffy with some of the things they throw on Miss Blake Lively. I mean yes, everything looks great on her, but that doesn’t mean the piece itself does. But anyways, tonight, more antics with Poppy and Gabriel. And Georgina. And fighting between Nate and Chuck. Sigh. If only my life were half as glamourous.
Anyways, I am in need for a good bronzer. Anyone know a good brand that is relatively cheap? Normally I would go to Mac, but you know, trying to save. I was thinking about trying the Ulta brand. Their products are usually good to me. haha
Rick Castle and Jack Bauer also are on the agenda tonight. As is fake drama on the Hills with the fake aftermath of the fake hook up between the Brodster and Audrina. Woo!
Pictureeeeesss. Sorry if they are repeats from Facebook.

Bows. Headbands. Yes please.

All we care about is runway models, Cadillacs, and liquor bottles.

Dear NY Post,
Are you kidding with that disgusting cartoon regarding Jessica Simpson and her non-existent fatness? So maybe she gained a few pounds and wore a completely tragic outfit, but still, not part of J.Simp is fat. At.All. She looks healthy and quite pretty in my opinion. And oh, NOT FAT. Hello, look at her legs. And since when are curvy women blasted? Just because she isn’t a size double zero and resembles a rail doesn’t mean she is fat. This is why so many women (young and old) have eating disorders. Society blasts the pin thin, tells people they should eat, and then blasts a young woman who might be a size 6? Good lord. That cartoon was uncalled for and unnecessary. How would you feel if that was you depicted in the drawing?
Stephanie
Yeah, so I’m not going to post the cartoon mostly because I am in a hurry and have to get back to editing layouts and also because it makes me sick. Gah. Anyways, in other news, I read that tonight’s episode of Lost is suppossed to be the best yet! I can’t wait. Oh and last night, instead of working out, I went home and cleaned up a little and hung some stuff up…and then had my own little dance party. It was awesome. And so much fun! Seriously, a really fun workout. My top pics for any awesomely awesome dance party are anything by Britney Spears and Lady GaGa. In fact, I had so much fun that I may even have another one tonight! Woo!
So I am beyond excited for Mac’s new Hello Kitty line! Thankfully I work next to a Nordstrom, so come Feb. 12, I am so getting myself some makeup for my Valentine’s Day present to myself. Boooyah!
Life on Mars returns tonight.
Also, for those of you in the Chicago area who want to celebrate choice, Chicago NOW is putting on an awesome panel discussion at UIC tomorrow in regards to reproductive freedom. Let me know if you are interested, and I will give you the detes. Keep abortion safe and legal!

And I am at work. waahhh. Oh well. I am only working a half day and then my sister and I are off to the spa!
Then back to my place and perhaps dinner at Wilde. Yum yum. Haven’t been there in forever.
Anyways, soooorrrrry for the lack of updates. Being a wannabe scene queen and self proclaimed popculture whore keeps one very busy. This past weekend I was in Bloomington visiting some family. My little cousin Becca, who is 2.5 is so f-ing cute. She needs to have a play date with Joshua. It would be like that movie Baby Geniouses but for real. And not creepy because they are both so smart and cute. Monday I had off but worked from home and wrote out my article by hand since my computer has no Internets or printer. Will someone pleeeease take pity on me and buy me the new Mac laptop that is all green and stuff? I will be your new best friend and love you forever. Thankssomuch!
Tuesday worked…then came home and wrapped presents, ordered food, and watched White Christmas. And Bridget Jones because I never get sick of it. Wednesday, we were off from work but I did some editing and then headed home. My dad and I watched 10 minutes of Mark Morris’ “comic book inspired” Nutcracker (The Hard Nut) before realizing we are not artsy enough to actually understand it haha and then put on Christmas-themed sitcoms such as Fraiser and Will and Grace. Oh and A Christmas Story was intersperesed in there. We also watched Throwdown with Bobby Flay. He challeneged Mark Malnati (Lou Malnati’s son) and they were at the BG location. So that was fun. I heart Bobby Flay. Is he married? So yeah, that’s basically what us Jews do on Christmas Eve. After the fact, we were like oh, crap, why didn’t we order Chinese!
Yesterday I went to Mike’s for Christmas Day and then headed back to my Dad’s for Chrismakkah! And presents! I am sooooooo excited for everything I got! Things I got include new sheets, TWO fabulous plush robes in pink and maroon, a Hello Kitty pez collector set, the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice, a Gone with the Wind Calendar (mmmm Clark Gable), gift cards, Rent (the movie), New York Stories, and this Michael Stars shirt that I have been wanting! Basil got some fun kitty gifts and loves his bird toy that actuall chirps. Ahhh I am sure my neighbors love me.
So all in all, I had a fabulous holiday! Not sure what New Years plans are just yet though. Off to actually be productive and then go wander around until my sister gets here. I think I need a calendar for my house. I am thinking either Ugly Betty or something Hello Kitty since I am obviously obssessed and think I am 12. Wee! It’s fun.
Also, if anyone can help me out with the order of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles I would be forever grateful. I know that it’s interview, Lestat, queen of the Damned…and then???? I can’t seem to find the order! Thanks!

Yay! The debates are for sure on tonight! I need to tape them, like I said in an earlier post, but will watch them over the weekend.
Anywho, so on to last night’s television shows. I watched Ugly Betty and The Office. And read about what happened on Grey’s. I wonder what sort of “Mc” name the new guy will get. Because you know that will happen. And an icicle? Really? So yeah, didn’t love UB or TO. But they both had their moments. Was squeeeeing with delight when Jim proposed to Pam. Celeste (the mother of the little girl I babysit for) had just gotten home and was in the hallway screaming don’t tell me don’t tell me as I was screaming, jumping around, and clapping my hands! Also, I can’t decide if I like Holly or not. I think, though, that Amy Ryan is doing a great job as portraying, what I think is suppossed to be the female version of Michael. Also, love Ryan back as the temp. Answering phones. With his blue tooth. And pretending to applogize but really is coming up with some diabolical plan to get everyone back.
As for Betty…not enough Marc and Amanda. Or Christina. I hate when Daniel isn’t at Mode although loved Players and Betty finally laughing at herself. Although I hope Daniel yelled at his son for that! Spraying silly string into one’s goggles while on a motorcycle is not okay. Loved Hilda though. “I’m wearing the big ring.” Lindsay Lohan was alright. I wonder what sort of role she will take on in other episodes. And also, next week? Betty Slater…with Willi’s HAIR. Love. I hope next week there is more of the UB awesomeness that got me into the show to begin with.
Still haven’t watched Fringe. That’s on my agenda for the weekend. Along with the debates, Tapas with Mike, and my 10-year high school reunion. Ah! Will be crazy. Although most people have a Facebook and/or MySpace, so I know what a lot of people are up too. Can’t wait to debut my fierce bracelet. Although I may rock it out tonight for dinner.

In case you can’t tell, I am very excited for the September 1 premiere of season 2 of Gossip Girl! Hmmm, maybe I will do all quotes from the show until it airs. That might be fun. Yes?
So let’s see. Yesterday, I saw a picture of the Jonas Brothers, and the eldest, Kevin, (yes I know their names SOS is my freaking ring tone!) was wearing a shirt that said “Team Selena and Demi” Oooooh SNAP! I wonder if that was in response to Miley spilling the beans about Nick in her most recent magazine interview. I thought that the whole circle of Disney starlets were all besties. Guess not. Oh and speaking of Disney, I also just read about how Zac E. totally threw a hissy fit at Ashley Tisdale’s 23rd b-day party in Malibu. (Is anyone else surprised that this isn’t a “Super Sweet Sixteen” special on MTV, on instead of 16 she’s 23? just me?) Moving along, so yeah, I guess I would get super annoyed if the pappo was chasing me down daily but apparently at the party he yelled at a party-goer who turned out to be the PR person from the Malibu beach house the party was at. Woops!
And then he went into the house with Baby V and The Tis in tow to re-straighten his hair. Um, wot? I guess that the guests were given gift bags with a straightener in it…random! Although if it was like a Chi or something I’d be excited. But I’m sure Zefron has like 90 at home. And who even knows if this is true. But why would Ashley leave her own party to go inside and watch Zac straighten his hair? Maybe she wanted some techniques as his hair does always look good. But so does hers. And I prefer Vanessa’s curly. OMG I need to get a life. But really, I wonder if this story if true. I think it seems embellished but some parts could probably be true. (Ahem Ahem the hair part)
I can’t stop watching the Olympics. I am SO HAPPY for the US Mens gymnastic team. The weren’t even a contender to get a medal and they got bronze! I watched almost all of their events. They were truly amazing. And they had such spirit and such positive attitudes. Great role models! I also watched some of the women’s synchro diving. Wow. So good. And I am still convinced that the US girls were getting low scores even though they were fantastic. But what do I know. And of course swimming. I heart Michael Phelps! And all the boys really. And Misty May and Kerry Walsh. Awesome. I don’t even care to watch volley ball and last night I was hooked! Can’t wait for women’s gymnastics!!!

So a few posts back I posted about Miley Cyrus and her issue with posting provocative pictures of herself…which I think are much worse than her Vanity Fair shoot. So anyways, this weekend, Mike and I were at Best Buy, and as I was drooling over the Mac Book Air, there were two teenage girls across from us, playing with the i-camera on another Mac. Now let me just say, these girls were 15-years-old MAX. And what were they doing? Pushing their boobs together (think Brandi C. and Kristia from ROL 1) and taking pictures. No, I am not joking. Then the one girl was like no, let me just do it, and cupped her hand around her boob (luckily they kept their tank tops on) and took a picture of it. Yeah…I’m not so sure what they were trying to achieve considering you can’t do anything with them on the model computer, but there you have it. What is wrong with kids today? At least do that in your own home and NOT in the middle of a Best Buy! And of course as Mike and I walked by, I totally yelled at them…although I don’t think that they heard me.
Anywho, am I being too prude about this whole issue? Or am I not the only one who thinks its weird and not normal for teenagers to be taking pictures of their boobs in the middle of Best Buy? I get that pop culture today is totally over-sexualized, but jeez. I blame bad sex education classes. Teach them about actual SEX people, not where the fallopian tubes are, well I mean yes that’s important too, but you all know what I mean.
However, on the other hand, my trip to BB was successful. I got a clear IPod case and some new head phones since Basil chewed on my current ones and the left side doesn’t work. Crazy kitty. Other than that I played with the LG Shine phone, which I am totally getting next month as my new phone. And then decided against getting a Hello Kitty mouse pad…mainly because it was $12 and also because I haven’t actually gotten a new computer since mine was stolen.
So yeah, I am having a mad obsession with the Jonas Brothers…I know, really I am just a kid at heart…well sort of, since I don’t take pictures of myself in not-so-innocent poses.
September 1. Gossip Girl. Season 2. OMFG!

Oh Miley Cyrus. Please stop posting pictures of yourself making “come hither” faces to the camera while you show us your stomach and Hello Kitty undies. Just for the record, I LOVED her Vanity Fair spread. There, I said it. I didn’t think anything was wrong with it. Yes, she was in a sheet and maybe the lipstick was a little too “old” but in the long run, I thought it was great. Annie Leibovitz is amazing. I wish I was famous so she could photograph me. And yes, maybe it was un-Disney of her, but maybe Disney needs to stop thinking that their starlets aren’t going to get into trouble (see: Britney, Lindsay, Vanessa Hudgins…). But I digress…
I thought there was nothing wrong with that Vanity Fair photo shoot and thought it idiotic that she had to apologize and claim she was embarrassed. However, I hope for her sake that the pictures just leaked of her in the shower wearing a white t-shirt are fake/doctored by someone mean who claims to have hacked into her phone.
Tweens…is it common practice now to get together with your friends…and instead of say, I don’t know, going to get matching hoodies at American Apparel or seeing a movie, is it now cool to be like, let’s take provocative pictures of ourselves wearing bras and kissing boys. And showing our undies. I mean really. I get that Miley and the like are teens and just happen to be living out their lives in the public eye, but I mean, can they leave the cameras alone? Or at least have the sober friend be all like, girl, put down your shirt and get out of the shower or page six will be all over your ass tomorrow. I mean, when I was younger, granted we didn’t have this sort of technology, my friends and I did take pictures if ourselves doing goofy things. With our clothes on. I can’t even imagine anyone I knew doing that…and if they did at least making them public. OMG, am I totally a prude?
Even in my sorority days I don’t think we ever took pictures like that. And don’t people learn? Well, ladies, here is my advice to you…if you are with a guy (or girl) and he says “don’t worry I won’t show anyone” and whips out his camera or video camera…please say no. He won’t keep it personal. And especially if you are famous. Just say no!! And if you want to do them yourself…keep all evidence locked up on your person at all times! And especially you Miss Cyrus! I really do like you…well your music since I don’t actually know you…and I am a fan of Hannah Montana. Seriously, it is the best of both worlds isn’t it? haha
Cheers!
