We like boys in cars…buy us drinks in bars…

Dear People on the street looking at me funny,

Stop looking at me as though I am insane. I don’t normally walk around with glitter eyeliner (okay that is sort of a lie) and cat ears on normal occasions. It’s Halloween. I’m glad I didn’t go all out and paint on some whiskers and a black nose. I probably wouldn’t have been let on the bus! Anyways, hope everyone has a safe and fabulous Halloween. I think I am scary moving it tonight. Perhaps with some sushi.

Love,

PCG

Anyways, in election news, today is the last day to vote early in Illinois. Also, here is a list of people running in both Chicago and the suburbs (divided by district and county) who are pro-choice.  And if you live in Cook County please vote for Pamela Loza for the office of Judge in the 12th Suburban Sub-Circuit of Cook County. You can read more about her here .

The Twilight movie comes out November 21, my friends and I are totally buying our tickets early so we can make sure to see it opening night. And we are making Team Jacob shirts. I am pretty sure mine will involve glitter. Yes, I know, I do give the books a lot of flack, but they are good if you don’t take them too seriously…I supposed. I still wish Bella was a little more empowered. But whatevs, my young adult series will totally be chock full of budding feminists and stuff. I already have the first book all planned out. Just need to sit down and write it.

Right…well again, have a Happy Halloween! Meow! :)

Do you hear the people sing?

So this…is awesome. I would just post the actual video but for some reason I can’t figure out how to actually. Remember, I am technologically slow.

Anyways…don’t forget early voting ends Friday. Election day is Tuesday, November 4. Go out and get your vote on!

And in music news…Lady Gaga’s new cd is awesome. So far my favorites are LoveGame and BoysBoysBoys, among her other notable ones like Just Dance, Poker Face, and Beautiful Dirty Rich.

And finally, I accidentally saw some of that HBO show Cathouse about the Bunny Ranch in Nevada.Yeeeah. I’m not quite sure why any woman would want to choose that as a career path, but I’m not going to judge. To each her own. I do want to know, aren’t they worried about getting STDs or other infections? I did like that all the girls weren’t all stick skinny and seemed to be all different shapes and sizes though. And the one girl Brooke, narrating was actually pretty articulate. Hmmm am I totally a perv for watching some of that? Haha

If everybody minded their own business, the world would go around a great deal faster than it does.*

I think I figured out what my issue is with the Twilight books. Right now, I am half way done with Eclipse. And so far it’s my favorite. I really like learning the back stories of the vampires and of Jacob and his people. Plus, I think Jacob is the only character that really shows some depth. Now, here is my issue, aside from the facts that I can’t stop reading them, I know I complain, but I do like the story/plot. Anyways, my issue, is that I really wish that Stephanie Meyer had written the main character, Bella Swan, with a bit more umph. Like I wish she was a bit more empowering. I’m sure Meyer had no idea how insanely popular her books would become, but since they are, and are geared at teens, I think that would have been a great message. Like have Bella be a little bit more independent and self confident rather than completely shutting down for 4 months when her vampire boyfriend left her. And always taking Edward’s side. And always wondering why he chose her because she isn’t dazzling like Rosalie and so on. Like I wish she would stand up for herself more in front of Edward and be like dude, stop being so possessive. I am happy though that he finally bought her a helmet and motorcycle jacket. Now can we please have the gratuitous sex scene? ahaha Kidding. Sort of. And gay vampires? Hmmmm that would be brilliant.

Moving on, The Hills is beyond boring now. Spencer is the most loathsome creature on tv. And that beard? And that advice he was giving Stephanie? Why should her bf say something to Brody about something that is old news. Maybe if Brody had said something that night, then yeah, he should stick up for her, and I think he would. He seems normal. And was smart not to come to lunch with Spiedi. I miss season one Heidi. And Audrina…JB said all the right things? He basically said that he doesn’t want to committ to you but wants you to be with him…how is any of that ok? Her co-worker totally wanted to smack her upside the head. That was some good restraint.

I am not so into Little J’s makeup on Gossip Girl. She looked like a racoon. And the hair was bad. Love Willa as Agnes though. She brings a great dynamic to the show. Aaron seemed creepy. Loved Blair and her thigh highs. because all high school students should always remember to seduce their womanizing true love by wearing sexy lingerie to school. Complete with garters. Oh show, what would I do without you. You know I love you.

Election day is in EIGHT days! And don’t forget you can vote early through Friday. Tomorrow I will be posting some links that link to the polticians in Chicago and the Chicago area suburbs who are pro-choice and endorsed by Personal PAC.

xoxo

Couldn’t Sleep a Wink Last Night

First of all, I am so excited that an Argo tea is moving into a building on Ohio (by Pockets). Not that I don’t love me some Starbucks, but I love that Argo has options. And by options I mean lots of tea and other flavored drinks. And just seems more natural (like ingredient-wise). Plus, they have chocolate chip scones. Not sure when it’s opening, but needless to say, I am excited. Obviously.

Since last Friday (Oct. 17) I have been cat and house sitting for a family friend. They live in a two flat in Lincoln Park, and I’m pretty sure Basil (my cat) thinks that we have actually moved here. He LOVES it there. The cat that lives there, Cashmere, does not. He hates us. More Basil than me though. Poor little guy. Basie just doesn’t get that when Cashie hisses at him, it isn’t an invitation for him to chase him up the stairs. Oh Basil. Yesterday, they had a stare down in the kitchen. It was pretty hysterical.

While there I have enjoyed the fact that they have RCN cable (and a computer with Internet!) and get every freaking channel. It’s the best. My new favorite tv show is “Whatever, Martha” on the Fine Living Network. I hope that I can access the show online once I get home, because it is seriously awesome. That Alexis Stewart is pretty funny. And also, in the past week I have watched Hairspray (the Zach Efron version), Marie Antoinette (which I decided I really need to buy), The Da Vinci Code, The Da Vinci COED (which I only had on by accident for three seconds before I realized I read the title wrong and was not watching Dan Brown’s story but soft core porn, woops!), Waiting for Guffman, and part of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Also, the have millions of books. I need to ask if I can borrow some. There are already like 5 I want to read!!

Anyways, my little staycation will be over on Wednesday. But I have a feeling I will need to bring Basil back to visit. He will miss his fun vacation home haha.

So with my Chase Leisure rewards Card, I think I am getting an Amazon gift card and a subscription to Marie Claire. And then I can buy all the movies and books I want. Well, up to $25 but still! Oh, also stopped at Barnes and Noble since they are having a 30 percent off sale due to closing at the Diversy location. Bought a new journal, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Louis Carroll, and Three Lives by Gertrude Stein. Both are the B&N version, which are already pretty cheap, so with the discount they were a good price. I almost bought some of the Gossip Girl series, but decided that is more of check out of the library thing.

Sushi with Melissa tonight!! And then Gossip Girl, Heroes, and the Hills!

Lollipop, do you take me for a sucker?

So I for one thought The Office was the best one of the season so far. I liked that finally Dwight was less annoying and more like old Dwight. “Why are you making a knife with a knife?” “Do you have a better idea?” Oh Dwight. I hope that Angela dumps Andy soon. Angela and Dwight belong together. And John Krasinsky? Meow.

Ugly Betty, uh, not the shows best work. I did like Wilhemina and Daniel’s surprise date and their plotting to get the boat back to shore. And I liked the Justin plot line. Loved that he tried out for Billy Elliot. Hated Lindsay Lohan. And you know, I usually do heart her, but the way she played her character just seemd so flat. And busted or something. Did love the mini backpack for her mini scrunchies though. Amanda can be so delioushly mean sometimes.

So I think I might try and vote early…but I kind of like voting on actual election day.  And clearly in general I like voting, because I was summoned for jury duty AGAIN. This is the second time in like a 3 month span. Yes, the last time I was on stand by and didn’t have to go, but still. And I have to go to 26th and California. They always send me there. Plus, it’s on a Friday. Boo. I’ll just bring a book or two like I did last time. Or perhaps some work depending on if I have deadlines or not. Although  we don’t get layouts for the Jan/Feb issue of the magazine until a few days after that, so I think I should be okay.

Moving on. Music this week I can’t stop listening to: I’m in Miami Bitch (LMFAO), Womanizer (Britney),  Send My Love to the Dance Floor (Cobra Starship), Real Love (Lucinda Williams), Her Hair is on Fire (Semi Precious Weapons)

The guy sure looks like plant food to me…

So I just read somewhere that someone is doing a remake of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). And yes, I am aware that the title of this post is from Little Shop of Horror and not RHPS, but its October so you know, it fits.

Anyways, why is someone doing a remake? The original is fantastic. And nothing could compare. Seriously. And just in case you want to get up and dance before leaving work today, here is a video of the “Time Warp” part. Love.

What is everyone dressing up as for Halloween?

I’m in Miami Bitch

Published by sbell under Uncategorized Edit This

Okay well not really but I promise an actual post tomorrow. And yes, anonymous is totally right…I did hang out with the cutest two year old EVER a few weeks ago. We had so much fun. Even though he pretended not to know my name.

I know what I want to do…

First of all, everyone needs to go and download the song “I’m in Miami, bitch” by LMFAO. It’s awesome. And catchy and you will find yourself singing along with it everywhere you go. On the opposite end of the music spectrum, the new Lucinda Williams song, Real Love also is fantastic. So download that too.

I just finished reading the book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It is now one of my favorite books. It is absolutely amazing and everyone needs to read it.  As soon as I finished it, I was like, I need to read this again. It is a memoir about the author’s life and just so interesting and inspiring. And also makes you appreciate what you have. I know I am making it sound so cheesey, but it is far from it. And then of course, right after I started Eclipse (the third in the Twilight series). I can’t help it. I am addicted. Although there are times that I have to stop and put the book down or throw it at the wall. Really Stephanie Meyer, I mean if these are geared towards teenagers, you might not want to make them think that in order to be happy in all aspects of life they need a man. I mean seriously, Bella went into a deep depression for like five months after Edward left. And it wasn’t until she befriended Jacob that she started to be “normal” again. I mean really, I understand as a teen that everything is always overdramtic and the worst thing ever, but still. Although it seems like Bella has a wee bit of character development so far inthe third book. Oh, and one last thing. To me, the books seem heavily “abstinence-only.” Yet, when Bella and Jacob ride the motorcycles, they aren’t wearing helmest. Um, yeah.

Alrighty, enough complaining. Obiviously I am still obsessed with the books enough to finish the series. After them though, I am finally going to get around to reading Full Frontal Feminism and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Then probably back to Agatha Christie. :)

Oy With the Poodles Already…

Oh Sarah Palin.  Miss potential-VP said this lovely gem today:

“I’m not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can’t do, should and should not do, but I certainly can express my own opinion here and take actions that I believe would be best for traditional marriage and that’s casting my votes and speaking up for traditional marriage that, that instrument that it’s the foundation of our society is that strong family and that’s based on that traditional definition of marriage, so I do support that.”

So you don’t want to judge anyone and don’t want to tell them what they can or can’t do. So then why vote against gay marriage and speak out about how you want to overturn Roe? I understand you can have your opinions, but why enforce them on us by stating that you would ban equal marriage and take away a woman’s right to choose? If you claim that you don’t want to tell them what they can or can’t do and then turn around and prevent them, make it illegal, for us to do them, well then aren’t you telling us we can’t do them?  Also, I get that a lot of people, including democrats are against gay marriage (yay for civil unions I suppose) because of the “tradition” that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but I just don’t see a problem.

Anyways, all the more reason to vote for Obama/Biden!

Gossip Girl, Heroes, pasta, and pumpkin bubble bath tonight!

xoxo
