When I Grow Up…

Published by sbell under basic info, things I want Edit This

I am pretty sure that today after work, I am stopping at the Sanrio store and buying a Hello Kitty toaster. It is awesome. And I need it. And I have always loved Hello Kitty waaaaay before she was trendy and her only friends were My Melody and the Little Twin Stars. I even had this HK sponged that changed color in water.

Anyways, now she travels with an entourage and designer Tarina Tarentino designs HK’s “goth” line with little HK dressed as “Lolita.” Um…weird? Sort of. Although when I looked it up it seems like it’s more a trend thing in Japan so it sort of makes sense. But still, a little creepy for a kids toy right? And everything costs like $350. Luckily, the toaster does not. There also is a waffle maker but I don’t need that. I also sort of want the big plush cushion of ChocoCat.

I also wanted this shower curtain from Target that was “Mod” HK until I remembered I am not 12 and not Mariah Carey. So the toaster will do…isn’t it fabu?

Like sort of whimsical and eclectic? And it makes sense given my love of all things feline! :)

Hell hath no fury like a Chuck Bass scorned…

Five days till Gossip Girl everyone! And six until 90210, which I am mainly watching for Brenda and Kelly. And also, here is my question, so the adverts for the show say “The show that defined a generation…is back” or something like that. Which is fine for us “older” viewers who actually grew up with the original, but what about the new generation of teens that the show is actually intended for…do they even know what 90210 is? Did they watch the original? Do they know the greatness that is Brenda Walsh and what the “Donna Martin Graduates” saying is all about?  And “Bran the Man?” And Dylan? And Steve? And Kelly Taylor and the fact that she had like 87 horrible things happen to her? Well, I certainly hope so. And if not, hopefully they will watch episodes online (I think you can do that) and read up on what made the show so awesome, well maybe not so awesome in the later college and grown up years. “I choose me.” hee Oh and that Melrose Place totally started based on Jake’s character on 90210 when he was the construction worker at Kelly’s house? Oh and one more thing, didn’t David and Kelly’s mom have a baby? I wonder if she will be on the show at all. Or he. I can’t actually remember.

Anyways,  Hillary’s speech was great last night. I need to re-watch though. Wasn’t so keen on that orange pant suit she was sporting though. But maybe she wanted to stand out? And i am interested to see who McCain will pick for his VEEP on Friday.

Are you happy with Obama’s choice for his running mate? Who do you think would have been a better pick? Who do you think McCain will pick?

Barak and Roll!

So today marks the actual day that Senator Obama (D-IL) will accept his nomination as the democratic presidential candidate. While I am still sad about Senator Clinton (D-NY), I am happy that he has made it. Such a landmark election year! And I think that he made a good choice choosing Senator Biden (D-Del) as his running mate, considering the 65-year old politician is the exact opposite of Sen. Obama, and that’s exactly what he needs.  The only thing I am worried about Biden’s stand on abortion. I am pretty sure he is pro-choice but he does believe that life begins at conception. Plus, if I am not mistaken, he voted yes to having Roberts become a Supreme Court Justice although Roberts doesn’t always vote conservatively so who knows. I guess time will tell. But I just feel that Obama wouldn’t pick an anti-choice running mate.

Anyways, in NPR world, the episode that aired not this past Sunday, but Aug. 18, was pretty hilarious. And one quote from Mo Rocca stood out. At the end of the show, when Peter asked what they thought Michael Phelps would do once the Olympics ended, Mo said (paraphrasing here), “that like the superhero Voltron, Phelps will turn himself into a bunch of mini-robotos who will then go on to compete in the 2012 Olympic games as the Chinese gynastics team.” Oh Mo. I heart you. I had to keep my laughing down to a minimum though as I was on the train.

So The Hills is on tonight. So hopefully I will have some more interesting gos for you all tomorrow. What did everyone think about the premere last week? Do you think that the drama between Audrina and Lo is mostly fabricated?

Who likes to rock the party?

I’m so sad. The corner store across the street from my house is closing because they lost their lease. The owner told me that the landlord doesn’t want a store there, he wants a bank or something else. Which, fine as long as it’s Chase. But whatever, even the the store sold stuff that sometimes already expired, it was still a great place to run to for a quick fix when I was too lazy to actually walk a block to Walgreens. But the owner said they have another store in the Loop. So that’s good. At least they don’t have to start from scratch.

Anyway, so let’s see. Friday night I watched “The Other Boleyn Girl.” Independent from the book I thought it was okay, but compared to the book it was just eh. I thought that Scarlett and Natalie were great as Mary and Anne. Scarlett played the role so sincere, which was exactly the same vibe I got from book-Mary. Natalie Portman is good in everything. Although, in the book, I don’t remember Anne actually getting upset over all the issues she created at the court but I read it a while ago, so I could be wrong. Saturday I took Bas to the vet (clean bill of health!), ran errands, went to Kristen’s for a NOW board BBQ, and then went with Mike to St. Charles to Alex and Karla’s. It was really fun. We made s’mores! Yum. I haven’t had a s’more in ages so it was a nice little treat.

This weekend is Labor Day, Cubs, and JAMIE! Woo! Doing a little kick as I type this.

Also, I may be back online in my apartment sometime soon!

The Hills tonight! I wonder when we will get to see the She-Pratt/Doug/Lauren drama and the Holly hangs out with Lauren drama.

Kiss Me…Like You Mean It

Right. So today for lunch, D and I went to CPK (California Pizza Kitchen for those of you not akin to my abbreviations). She ordered her usual original chopped, and I ordered the Mediterranean salad. With extra sun-dried tomatoes. Simple enough. The food comes, and I immediately stab a hunk of feta cheese…and then spit it out. It was rancid. Like tasted and smelled moldy. Gross. I know. So the waiter comes back, and I’m like this cheese is moldy can I have a new salad with no cheese? And a new salad meaning like made fresh. He comes back with the manager who brings me my new salad and a side of feta. Um, what? Yeah. So he’s like “oh well our feta is in the bryne so that’s why it takes like that. Have you ever eaten it like that? I promise it’s not moldy.” Okay first of all, I know cheese. And maybe I am wrong, but feta should never smell moldy. But like I said I could be wrong. Secondly, please don’t talk to me like I am an idiot. It’s a chain restaurant. Not a Michelin 5-star. Thirdly, just say you apologize but you use strong cheese. Don’t try and convince me I want to eat it AFTER I already told you no. And lastly, comp the meal or offer a free app or dessert. I mean really. Have you never seen Kitchen Nightmares?

Anywho, songs I downloaded recently that I can’t stop listening to:
-So What, P!NK
-A-Punk, Vampire Weekend
-Get Back, Demi Lovato (I had to involve Disney somehow)
-Just Dance, Lady GaGa

Tomorrow is Basil’s first vet visit. I am slightly nervous. He has been pretty aggressive the last few days. I need to start using the water spray bottle. Oh Bas.

NOW BBQ and then out with Mike, Alex, and Karla on Saturday.

S not so fashionably late and dressed down by B. Game on ladies.

So I made a mistake, the Olympics are over on Sunday…they were not over last night. I watched a little of men’s beach volleyball and regular volley ball (they sure do like to slap each others asses) last night. And Tabatha’s Salon Take Over. I didn’t love it or anything but it was pretty good. Tabatha was a lot nicer than I was expecting. I mean she still had her moments, but in the end, the results were great. And I would totally be pissed if my hair stylist told me that her or his inch was different than my inch. I would probably leave. An inch is an inch. I’m glad that girl got more confidence at the end, but still, I hope she keeps a ruler or tape measurer with her at her chair.

Anyways, so, NY fashion week (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week) is upon us! I keep forgetting that the current Project Runway winner will be showing there…so let the spoilers begin! I hope Terri has a spot! But yeah, I am excited to see what all the fall trends are and stuff.  As for the bigger designers, I am most excited for Betsy Johnson,  3.1 Philip Lim, Nicole Miller and BCBGmaxazria. Pretty typical/well-known designers. I am also interested to see what Michael Kors puts out this year. One of these days, I will get myself there, as a spectator! I so envy the fug girls and their NY Post column. They are awesome. And hysterical. And usually right on the money of some of the ridiculousness of fashion. Anyways, here are a list of some things I want for fall:

  • Metallic leggings
  • Wide leg trouser pants (for work)
  • A black trench
  • Black ankle boots
  • Flat purple scrunchy boots (or black)
  • Chanel two-toned tights (is $140 a lot for tights? :) )
  • Anything argyle
  • Sweater vests
  • This scarf/hood thing I saw at Belmont Army Navy Surplus
  • The American Apparel unisex oxford shirt
  • Silver heels
  • Black Snake-skin heels

Yeah…I apparently want a lot of things. I would look on eBay for the tights, but they are so hot right now, that I probably have no change. Oh well, Chanel is technically on my way home from work. :)

Leave it to Blair Waldorf to know bitches don’t just happen; they’re made.

Hullo dear readers! Sorry for the lapse in posting! I will be better I promise! So sad that the Olympics are finished tonight. I wonder what will happen with the investigation into the Chinese gymnasts. Also, how sad was it when LoLo Johnson knocked the hurdle down. I felt so bad for her. :( Oh, and who knew trampolining was a sport!

Onwards, well it looks like little Violet Sydney Bristow Garner Affleck will be getting a new brother or sister! Congrats to Ben and Jen. Because clearly they read my blog.  :)

So um, how awesome was Project Runway last night? I heart all things drag queen, including the hot ladies themselves. LOVED that Chris March was back in full regalia and asked Heidi if they could get German food. Best part of the episode? When Suede told Tim Gunn that Hedde Lettuce was all up in his vegtable patch regarding her sleeves. Tim’s response was priceless, “Tell her you’ve already been to the rodeo and to not you-know-what with you sister.” Awesome. And I loved when Michael Kors told Jerrel that his dress was very crazy aunt at the Bar Mitzvah. I think it was (minus the collar) but I still loved it. And him. And Leanne makes me laugh when she makes fun of Blayne. With the -licious stuff.

Shear Genius. Meh. Whatever. I am sort of over that show but am curious to see Tabitha’s new show tonight. Girlfriend can be a beeeyotch.

Kind of slowsville on the goss front these days. OH the Jonas Brothers are totally in Chicago or coming to Chicago but irregardless, they were on WGN this am (pre-taped but whatevs) and were so cute. Kevin did most of the talking. And Dean Richard’s had no idea which was which so Robin had to set him straight. Loves it.

This post is bordering on teeny-bopper crazy.  But whatever, you all know you love me. xoxo

I’m the Mutha-Flippin…

Sorry I have been so delinquent, but I am back in business with both blogs now. My other blog is here, in case you forgot or just don’t know. Read it. Love it. Worship me I mean it. haha

Anywho, SO my sister got married this past Saturday! The wedding (at the James Hotel) was beautiful and she looked amazing. It was so much fun (and stressful) and now they are honeymooning in Peru with wet luggage thanks to American Airlines and Tropical Storm Fay. But yeah, we even got some wedding crashers! ahaha I will post some pics tomorrow or later today. I loved my hair. Bruce did an awesome updo with teasing and a poof and it was just great. I looked so grown up ahaha. Oh and Rene did my eyes smokey, it was hot, well as hot as one can get for a wedding. Mike had fun too! It was his first Hora! I think he was scared at first but then had to assist with the lifting of the bride and groom in chairs. And also, I love the James Hotel. I wish I could actually afford to stay there on a regular basis for fun. Seriously, so comfy. And the loft rooms are really cool. I wanted to hang out on the chaise/bed and watch the projector tv!

Moving on…so is Nastia really going to get the gold for the uneven bars? I knew something was fishy. I missed that one, but did see Shawn on the beam. Freaking great. She is so cute. I just want to give her a big hug, but not in a creepy way. Also, did everyone see when LoLo Johnson clipped/knocked down the hurdle? Oh man. My heart went out to her. She was visibly so upset (and rightfully so). But seemed happy that an American won anyways. In case you can’t tell, I am obsessed with the Olympics.

Um, and last night’s Project Runway? Was my favorite episode. Ever. I heart all things drag queen-related. And those girls were FIERCE. I loved the hot pink jumpsuit and Joe’s model rocked it like nobody’s business. And it was great to see Chris again. He rules. He needs his own show on how to design and be friends with a drag queen. Seriously. These ladies were fabulous. And to even support my love of drag queens, I just read a book by an ex drag queen called Candy Everybody Wants by Josh Kilmer-Purcell. It’s a great read. I highly recommend it.

And lastly, I finally watched Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. So awesome. NPH is fantastic. As is Joss Wheden.

The Rest is Still Unwritten…

Oh The Hills. How I have missed you and your fabricated drama. And Lauren’s puppy dog sideways head tilt she does on dates. And the bitchy Lo. And assy Spencer. And delusional Heidi. And passive Audrina. And Wh-wh-WHITNEY! Who’s only function is to ask Lauren how things are going.

I used to love Lo. And still sort of do, but I thought she was a little too bitchy tonight. First of all, why was she so obnoxious about who Audrina invited to HER own b-day party. Open your mind Lo, make new friends, you aren’t in your OC bubble any more. And why should Audrina help withe the party that you and Lauren are throwing for her. On the other hand, that “fight” between Audrina and Lo was ridiculous. Can’t they just agree that they can both be friends with Lauren but can just be civil to each other. All your friends don’t have to like each other. But Lo can at least try and hide the bitchy when it comes to Audrina. Geez, since when am I so Team Audrina?

Also, Spencer? Why the need to be a douche to your girlfriend’s sister. Can’t she have one thing in her life? Poor Holly. She seemed to be trying. And then during the little party thing MTV had when they interviewed her…Holly’s “he’s a good guy” was no parts believable. And overall, did anyone else feel like the actual show was about 15 minutes?

So quick update on the Olympics. I love Nastia Lukin. I don’t get why Shawn Johnson is getting all the press. I am beyond happy for her as she is an amazing gymnast, but NL was also amazing. So yay for her! Plus she is 18 so this is probably her last games. SJ still has another year. And I can see her rocking all the golds then. And I felt bad last night for Nastia, as the judging for both the woman has been bad. She looked so upset. I feel like in a lot of scoring events I have watched, the US has gotten crappy scores for what looked like fantastic performances. Ho hum.

Alrighty…more Olympics and the Cubbies versus the Reds tonight! Holla!

xoxo
