Caught a Light Sneeze

Published by sbell at 4:59 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Recently, I have found myself wondering what it would be like to be a teenager today. I’m not saying I’m old (although closer to 30 than 21!!) or anything, but well, with all the advances with technology, I wonder what my high school years would have been like had we had blogs and Web site and such. Back then it was America Online. No joke. I was one of the first of my friends to get it, so my friends and I would hang out at my house, eat Popsicles, and play around in chat rooms and make up crap about ourselves. And try and meet boys. Don’t worry, back then we were already privy to the fact that AOL chat rooms were breeding grounds for pedophiles. Still, I think back and remember that people would go into the chat rooms and be all: S/W/F/H with the H equaling horny. And then go onto to ask people if they wanted to swap pics. Keep in mind, digital cameras were still really really new (at least I think, they might not even have been around until I went to college) so it was like scanning pictures for us. I usually just went in those rooms for a good laugh.

Anywho, the reason I am writing about this is because last summer I became oddly drawn to Cory Kennedy. Not in that gross pervy way because I am aware that she is a teenager, but in this weird way like, if I was 16, I totally would have been obsessed with her like for real and started dressing like her and what have you. Even though she is like 10 years younger than me, I often admire her style and her life. I mean hello, she isn’t even 21 and gets to do all these amazing things such as going to Paris Fashion week, hosting parties, meeting famous artists…I have to admit, I’m a little jealous!

This summer, I have found myself again oddly drawn to another youngster who graces the Web, models, travels, and goes to amazing parties. Oh and gets free clothes. This time around it’s this girl named HannaBeth. Up until like a week ago I had no idea who she was until I read a post on PerezHilton about how she was/is friends with Jeffree, who, I’ll admit I have no clue who he is, maybe a MySpace sensation? Anywho, apparently Jeffree and HannaBeth got into a fight and then Jeffree went and posted, what I am assuming is fake, texts from Trace Cyrus calling him (her?) all these names and such. So of course, since I had no idea who any of these people were, I found myself looking them up on Google. Anywho, turns out HannaBeth is another “scene queen,” which she rightfully makes fun of because really, what the hell does that even mean. So now I know, HB is an “Internet It Girl,” model, fashion designer, fashionista, and sometimes interviewer for MTV red carpet events. Oh, and she has this Chanel bracelet that I covet. A lot. Like I was drooling over it. Mostly because I love all things Chanel and can’t afford it. Um, so this post actually had a point, not just me talking about these teens, because well now I just sound skeevy. And I promise you I’m not!

Right. Back on track. My point was that, I often wonder if I was a teen now, if my teenage self would somehow have made it her business to be famous…thus making more money then current 28-year-old me hence being able to buy all the Chanel I wanted. And Chole. And Tory Burch. And Marc Jacobs. And well…you get the point! Or is it still okay for me now, as an adult to try and pimp myself out and still become some sort of known blogger (like the Fug Girls and Trent) of all things pop culture…which I mean everyone else does celebrity gossip, so maybe I am creating something new, right? Or not.

But whatever, I think that I need to make it my mission to get Popculturegrrl on the map. Hmmm now, if anyone has an ideas on how I can do this, I would be forever grateful. :)

I do know that if we did have blogs back when I was in high school, I so would have been my high school’s Gossip Girl. I mean I always somehow knew everything about everyone! haha

ttfn.
