I’m Singin In the Rain

Rainy days ahead for Chicago…so all you out-of-towners headed to Lolla this weekend, bring umbrellas, ponchos, and drink plenty of water. It’s going to be HOT. And humid. I, sadly, am not attending the music festival, mainly because I hate huge outdoor festival-esq type things, especially when its really hot. Actually that’s mostly the reason. Also, it was a bit too pricey. But I am excited for many of the bands so I thought that I would give you a list of the bands I would make it a point to see if I was going. Also, because I am that girl, I totally know what I would have worn (all three days) if I was going…but I think I will spare you those details.

Friday, Aug. 1
-Manchester Orchestra
-Duffy/The Kills (why are they playing at the same time?!)
-Jeff Tweedy
-Bloc Party
-Cat Power
-VHS or Beta
-The Raconteurs
-Radiohead

Saturday, Aug. 2
-The Ting Tings
-DeVotchKa
-MGMT
-Uffie
-DJ AM
-DJ MomJeans
-Lupe Fiasco
-Rage Against the Machine (I love me some Wilco but have seen them before)

Sunday, Aug. 3
-John Butler Trio
-Iron & Wine
-Girl Talk
-G. Love and the Special Sauce
-Gnarls Barkley
-Mark Ronson
-What Made Milwaukee Famous
-Blues Traveler
-Lupe Fiasco
-NIN (sorry Kanye!)

So there you have it folks! Seriously, go see Uffie. She is awesome. And swears a lot. And raps. And just seems like an overall cool person, whom, for the record, I have actually never met…and her words…yeeeeeah Uffie’s got it.

Anyways, what bands are you most looking forward to at Lolla? Who do you wish was in the line up but isn’t?

****************

New Subject…so I listened to the July 20th broadcast of Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me. The special guest was John Waters. He was hysterical. Only got one answer right, but to be fair the questions (all about Jersey City) were pretty random. He made some jokes about his movies, and just seemed so good nature and happy to be a part of the show. Also, during the lightening round at the end, Amy, one of the panelists who writes the “Ask Amy” column, made a comment about how she should have read the newspaper this week since she didn’t know a lot of the answers…to which she was met with snarky words from the other panelists…”you work for a newspaper…” Too funny. Oh and then one of the questions was about the burglar who had BBQ Sauce all over him…so of course “BBQ Sauce” became the answer for all the questions that Charlie didn’t know.

I’m the only sour cherry on your fruit stand…

I was playing around on Kitson’s Web site and low and behold they are now selling (re-selling?) Member’s Only jackets. For $145. I am totally pissed because last year I found a lime green one at Land of the Lost and totally should have bought it since it was like $20. And also, when these jackets were first in style, my sister and I had matching magenta ones by the way, there was no way that were that pricey. I mean my whole family had one, and no way would my parents spend that on one jacket for their elementary and middle school aged children. I get that times have changes and the economy is different (although weren’t we in a recession back in the 80s too?) but really, why are they $145?! Why can’t they sell for what they used to cost. At Burlington Coat Factory. And Kohls.

So anyways, I decided in the spirit of re-doing my bedroom bedding, I also am going to make over my bathroom. I’m thinking deep, rich colors. I need to go to World Market. I love that place.

And after my sister’s wedding, and once the weather cools off, I am totally going to start going on mini-adventures so I have something interesting to write about. Either by myself or with people. So if anyone has any cool places they think I should visit…let me know! I think my first one might be going to the Alley and Medusa’s Circle to try on corsets and fun platform shoes. And pleather pants. And take pictures. Funny ones. Not pervy. Who’s with me?! Britta…I think you should come for a visit so you can accompany me! :)

Song of the moment: “About a Girl,” The Academy Is

My guess for top 2: Katee and Chelsie or Katee and Joshua.

Lions and Tigers and Bears…Oh My!

Firstly, dear person editing my blog and choosing which posts are paid, please help me fix my comment section. I have emailed today.com twice now and have heard nothing back! I have left numerous test comments, and I know other people have left some, and nothing is showing up. Please help! Thankyousomuch.

Right, onward. So sorry for the lapse of posting yesterday, so let’s see if we can make this one even better. One celeb-related thing I read about today, of course has to do with Miss Miley Cyrus. Apparently, some condom company wants her to be their spokesperson. Well, see maybe if she were say 18 it would be a little less squicky, but hypothetically girlfriend was 18…I totally think she could do it. But alas, she has told all her fans that she too is waiting for marriage. But see now, let’s say she had never made that declaration and said condom company approached her, I think it would be a wise decision. Sure, she would have to let the world know she is having sex (but really at this point, what’s worse than that wet t-shirt pic?) but at the same time, she would be all heeeey everyone I’m having sex but I’m doing it the safe way…and then all her condoms can come in like funky packages with quotes from her songs. Or not. But anyways, so do you all see what I mean? I personally think, being a spokesperson for that kind of thing is great. She is not promoting that kids go and have sex, she is promoting the fact that if you have sex you should be safe. And then she can do a bunch of PSAs about how yes, teenage pregnancy is 100 percent preventable, but not everyone will be doing an abstinence-only based education (which, BTW sucks and should never be enforced) so should could talk about how parents and teens should talk…and teach their kids about the pill. And using condoms. And STDs. And how you can still get STDs from other sexual activities other than sex. Okay, stepping off my soap box and slowly walking away.

I stopped into Forever 21 today on my way to the bank because I saw a Blair Waldorff-esq dress in the window, and when I went to check it out, the thing cost like $60…because it’s apparently the “couture” line. I guess when you think of it in relation to designer dresses, its still pretty cheap. But yeah, the whole reason I go into that store normally is to find something cute yet a little outlandish for $32 or under. I did see some cute dresses, but I wasn’t in the mood to try on. I did get heart-shaped sunglasses though. Oh, and at Nordstrom last week I totally found super cute knee-high flat-heeled, black suede boots that I must get for fall. They are pretty decent price-wise, as they are the BP brand, I think, and that is always like $100 cheaper then the “name” brands they carry. And I plan on wearing tights and leggings a lot this fall. Sorry fug girls ! But I think that if you do it right it can work.

tata for now!

I Wear my Sunglasses at Night

I bought the sunglasses! But I got them from Forever 21 instead since they were way cheaper. So for those of you also interested in buying yourself a pair, they have them in red and white. I got them in white. And if you are confused as to what I am talking about, see the below image in the previous post.

I started reading my next book club book, which is ‘Twilight’ by Stephanie Meyer. I really like it so far. It is actually a young adult novel, but it sort of has that Harry Potter-type read in that it can appeal to a larger audience then the one it’s intended. But yeah, it’s good and really interesting. I recommend it.

Project Runway, Shear Genius, and SYTYCD are all tonight! Woo!

This is a short post. Sorry!

Pocket Full of Sunshine

Okay, so am I too old to get heart-shaped sunglasses? Because I want them. In white. Here are what they look like in red:

They are $13 from PopKiller. I need to link that site. It’s way cool. And yes, I just said way cool.

I finally saw The Dark Knight. I thought it was really good. And Heath Ledger was great as the Joker. It was sad to watch him though. Then Mike and I went to Chilis. I think this weekend we are going to watch Batman Begins because I have never seen that one. So another Batman weekend for me coming up. And babysitting both Thursday and Saturday.

My top songs in rotation on my Ipod…feel free to make fun of me:
1. Burnin Up, The Jonas Brothers
2. Sour Cherry, The Kills
3. Voyage Voyage, Kate Ryan
4. Johnny Winter, The Van Jets
5. 7 Things, Miley Cyrus

I am sure that will change in a few days though.

My top shows of the summer:
1. Swingtown
2. Project Runway
3. SYTYCD
4. The Hills (Aug. 14th people!!)
5. Shear Genius

I’m into writing out lists these days.

Alrighty, well let me know if it’s okay to get those sunglasses.

Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?

Swingtown is totally becoming my favorite show of summer…of course until The Hills starts in a few weeks ahaha. Yesterday when I was on the train going home and we stopped at Indian Hill…I felt cool since that is the station they show in Swington. Although I think it’s actually a set in LA and not the actual station.

On to the weekend…Saturday night I finally saw ‘The Dark Knight,” and I really liked it. Normally, I am not into those types of movies, but like I said it was really good. Christan Bale was a great Batman, although the voice he used as Batman was a bit off-putting in my opinion and Heath Ledger as the Joker was truly amazing. I mean he really sort of stole the show for me. I mean it was so different from anything I have seen him in, and he owned the part. Plus, he played it just the right amount of disturbing and not very cartoony so it felt more scary and real. I am surprised that this movie was PG13 though. Oh, and also, I thought it was a wee bit too long. But just a side note, I always think any movie over 90 minutes is too long. Unless I am watching it at home. The next movies on my list to see are Brideshead Revisted, Wall-E, and Mama Mia. Also, I sort of want to see House Bunny. And Step Brothers. I normally am not really into movies like that either, but for some reason, the previews of House Bunny look pretty funny and not in that Van Wilder way. (Sorry folks, I hated that movie) but in that way where it is surprisingly good. Plus I kind of love Anna Ferris. And Step Brother has been getting really good reviews.

My top celeb story today? Shia LeBoeuf. Oh Shia…I heart you so but dude, you were drunk driving. And this follows some statements you made in an interview about how you don’t want people to think you are that kind of guy who does what the majority of young Hollywood does (or well Disney stars really) but a DUI? That is not cool. Open letter to young Hollywood…please hire a driver if you plan on going out and partying or make sure you have a trustworthy friend who stays the sober sister.

TV Update. I Love Money. Last night’s episode was pretty uncomfortable for me to watch. I get that this show is about winning money, and the majority of these people are ruthless famewhores, but that does not give anyone the right to terrorize someone while they are sleeping. I used to love White Boy but after that crap he pulled last night with Chance, when they were almost basically assaulting Mr. Boston, was not okay. What is wrong with these people? You are adults not 13 year old boys. And even then it’s not okay. I get that Mr. Boston is not your cup of tea (get the pun hahah Boston…teas party…yes?) but leave the dude alone. And I am not a huge fan of his…seriously, why did no one intervene when he went in the shower with Brandi C? Just cuz homegirl is a “porn star” does not mean she feels comfortable in the shower with other people in her every day life. I think it was a wise choice for 12-pack to send Mr. Boston home. I feared for his life a little bit.

And on that note, I really only want 12-Pack, Heather, Destiny, or The Entertainer to win. They seem like decent people in the way of reality fame whores and such.

So yeeeeah, that’s about all I got for you all today.

What movies does everyone looking forward to seeing?

Oh yo oh yo….catch this…

OMG(omguguys!) seeing ‘Pretty Woman’ on the big screen was so great. I went to see a screening of it last night at Century. Melissa had tickets because the S Factor was doing their first Girl’s Night. It was so fun. Her brother’s gf also came as did KJ. They had a raffle before to win classes or parties at the studio, but I didn’t win. I wish it just wasn’t so durn expensive to take classes there! But yeah, I totally forgot how much I LOVE that movie, even if I own it. Plus I feel like there were some extended scenes I had never seen before. Such as Vivian taking Edward to the Blue Banana to find Kit and then before they leave, one of the drug dealers tells Viv she owes him $200 and Edward totally threatens him. Unless of course, I just don’t remember that part. Also, the part with the snails still makes me laugh every time. As does the “cinder-fucking-rella” line.

Tonight S&M are coming over with their cat because I am cat sitting in two weeks, and we want to make sure Bas and Cashie get along. I have a feeling Basil will totally want to play but Cash will want none of it. I better tell B to behave himself! :) Tomorrow night Mike and I are going to din din with Jess and Tim to this Cuban place called Cafe Bolero. I read the menu and everything sounds delicious, even though I would never eat half the things on the menu, they still sound good. Saturday is my sister’s shower and then Sunday, I think I’m going to my sister’s. Not sure. So busy weekend coming up!

I ordered a really cute gladiator sandals from Old Navy, and I am really excited about them. Although, if I was famous, I am sure that Heather and Jessica would totally Fug me as they don’t like the kind that go up your ankles.

Next Thursday I start my new weekly babysitting job! I am meeting the family tomorrow after work!

You better work…covergirl…work it girl…give a twirl…do you thing…on the RUNWAY….

I love that song. Last night’s episode of Project Runway was all about designing with green fabric (environmentally safe NOT the color) and the guest was Miss Natalie Portman who looked stunning. Couple things, please never have another challenge when the models have to pick out the fabric! I mean, in real life, if a designer is designing a dress for someone, doesn’t that person usually expect the designer to get the material? I would know nothing about it! However, I would know enough not to pick out that weird bronzey fabric. I mean it would be pretty as like a skirt or something but as a whole dress? It was just meh for me. I totally disagreed with the judges though. I did like Suede’s dress but I thought it looked like it didn’t fit, and I wasn’t wild about the color scheme, which I know was not his fault. But it would have been better, IMO, if it was like Grey and black…thoughts?

I LOVED Kenley’s dress. Although I’m pretty sure that Victoria Beckham is the only one who could pull it off…but still she would look amazing. She has good bone structure for those weird neck things. I also loved Daniel’s and Terri’s designs. And they weren’t even in the top 3. What?! Here are the pictures of their fabulous creations:

Keneley Daniel Terri
runway1.jpgrunway3.jpg

See what I mean? Vicki B could totally rock that first dress…although probably a little shorter for her since she isn’t as tall as the model. What were your favorite designs?

And speaking of working it…it was so cool to watch Pretty Woman on the big screen. I forgot how much I heart that movie. And Julia Roberts has totally aged well. She looked amazing then and looks amazing now.

Haven’t watched Shear Genius yet. But SYTYCD was great. Everyone really stepped up their game.

If you text it I’ll delete it…

So I finally get a comment to work on my other blog and it’s totally from some gross teenage porn site. They didn’t agree with what I wrote about teenagers posing in suggestive poses (big shock since their Web site is devoted to nekked teens) but that I have an interesting POV. I emailed the people over at today.com to see what the deal is with comments, since I did a test one and I know my sister posted a few and nothing is showing up.

Anyways, I saw a sneak peek at what is coming up on the next season of The Hills…and I can’t wait to see what Audrina’s “I don’t caaaare” statement to Lo is in relation too! And Stephanie Pratt and Lauren get into an altercation over some boy that both Lauren and the She-Pratt seem to like and date. I just hope that Lauren also blames the boy in this situation. August 14 people. Woo!

Today at lunch I went over to the NOW office to get some info in order to re-establish our Ed Fund. Looking through all the old files was actually pretty fun. I found 20-year-old clippings about Gays in the Military and why they should or should not be allowed to joins, old clippings about the PRIDE parade, and all the agendas and minutes from like the last 15 years. When I have more time, I think I want to go back and look at the stuff more carefully. It reminds me of how much I loved looking at my sorority’s old photo albums. And I am still a little sad that they painted over all the stuff in our basement. I liked seeing the paintings and names of former Phi’s. :)

So yeah…a little disappointed that Autumn was not cast as the next Elle Woods on Broadway, she has such an amazing voice I wish her all the luck and hope she gets some awesome parts from this. I do think that with some work Bailey will be good. She really does embody the part, I just hope she can convey all the right emotions during some other the less peppy numbers.

Alrighty, more later. Sorry about the lack of updates. It’s hard having two blogs!

I’m burnin up…burnin up…for you baby…

Seriously. I have Jonas fever! haha Although I don’t know how I feel about the whole “we are waiting for marriage” thing. I mean we all know how well that worked out for Britney. I mean, fine if you want to practice abstinence, although I hope my boys know that means abstaining from everything…but I just think, no need to publicize, ya know?  But whatever, they seem like good role models, the J-brothers. And their songs are catchy.

Moving on…so tonight I am going to see Pretty Woman on the big screen! My friend Melissa takes classes at Shelia Kelly’s S Factor and they are doing a girl’s night sort of thing and showing PW at the Century Cinema! There also will be a raffle, and the event is free, so even better. I own the movie, (on VHS holla!), but have not seen it in forever. And just a side note, I am so glad that a. this is not going to be remade (knock on wood) and b. isn’t being turned into a musical. I mean we have all seen what happened with Dirty Dancing, hello Havana Nights anyone! And I totally will see the musical, but so far the reviews seem iffy. And just another side note, there is no singing in the production of Dirty Dancing: The Musical. Just dancing…which, I hope will turn out to be amazing. Also, I have DD on VHS too. Along with Casablanca, Little Women, a plethora of Disney Movies and some others. I didn’t get a DVD player until like 2004. No, I am no parts kidding. But don’t worry, it has VHS too!

In honor of the best television Web site out there, and their Tubby awards, it got me thinking about shows I miss or wish weren’t canceled and so for forth. So I’m still not sure what is up with leaving comments since people have said they are and nothing is showing up, but hopefully this technical glitch will be ironed out shortly. So feel free to attempt to leave comments!
