You Spin Me Right Round Baby Right Round

Slackergrrl is what my new name should be! Anyways, so with the warmer weather comes my summer must-have list as promised, for all three of you that read this baby, but here it ’tis…

1. Dresses! Short, long, anything in between. Clearly I have an obsession with maxi dresses. For great buys on super cute summer dresses check out Target, Old Navy, and Forever 21

2. Sunscreen. Whenever you are going outside on both sunny and cloudy days, make sure to coat yourself! Trust me, you can still get sunburn when it’s cloudy.  Brands I trust (meaning I don’t break out or get a rash) Coppertone, Neutregina, and Aveeno. Make sure the one you use is oil-free, water-proof, and has protection from all the sun’s rays! Also, if you want to keep the suncreen away from your face, make sure your daily moisturizer has an SPF. As does your lip gloss or chapstick. Mac makes a great lippy that is SPF 15 and tinted!

4. Hat. Sun hats, visors, fedoras. Hats are in (well in my opinion) and a great way to protect your face! H&M, Forever 21, and Urban Outfitters always have cute ones.

5. Flip-flops. Screw heels for the summer! Flip-flops can be casual or dressy. Nordstrom, Gap, Old Navy, and Target have some great finds for going to the beach and then going out to dine al fresco.

6. Books. I usually hate the term “easy” summer reads, but hey, there are some books that are better read in the summer on the beach, at the park, or even on a rainy day.  Books/Authors I recommend: Jeff Lindsay (the Dexter trilogy), Nora Roberts (The “born in” trilogy is my favorite),  Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Margaret Mitchell (Gone With the Wind), Jodi Picoult (Salem Falls and Plain Truth are my favs although I do want to read My Sister’s Keeper), and then don’t forget about The Twilight books!

7. A great play list for lounging at the pool, beach, walking, running, working out, etc. I may post my list in another blog, but songs I recommend, both old and new: Valentino (Diane Birch), Good Girls Go Bad (Cobra Starship feat. Leighton Meester), Do It (Nelly Furtado), Circus (Britney Spears), I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked (Ida Maria), Welcome to England (Tori Amos), Weightless (All Time Low), Drop the Girl (Hit the Lights)

8. Bathing suits. I like one pieces these days. Target, H&M, and J Crew are great places to mix and match!

9. A summer fun list. I have yet to do this, but I am planning to try and find fun and inexpensive activities around the city (free also is good).  For instance, this week, the Shedd Aquarium is free!

10. A positive attitude! :)

What are some of your summer must-haves?

Another Saturday Night and I Ain’t Got Nobody

Firstly, please excuse all the random nonsensical comments. Spam at it’s finest. I will delete them at some point. Secondly, yes, I am blogging on a Saturday night. I went to a friends bachelorette party for a bit, but then left because the second half of the night was going to be $$. But had a blast at the first part. It was a friend from HS, and she broke her “glass” that we made for her on her 18th birthday. We read all the messages, and they were hysterical. Mine was kind of generic, but I did say I hoped her husband was rich ahahah. For some of my other friends I think I wrote that I was going to be staring on Broadway, just generally famous (which, in Stephanie-Land I totally am), and something about fighting for gay rights, which is kind of funny and awesome and ironic because clearly that was one thing that is actually true. At one point, I think in some video we made, I said I was going to be writing made-for-tv movies for Lifetime. HA. I was addicted back then. Still am. Also, has anyone else noticed how many Marla Sokoloff has been in? She’s totally the Lifetime Movie slut haha :)

Um, okay yeeeeah so technically the only reason that I ain’t go no one tonight is because boyfriend Mike is home with a headache and just generally feeling crappy. He was gonna come over so we could watch Frost/Nixon. So that is post-poned until next weekend.

I finally watched Bride Wars last night. I loved it! So cute! Kate and Anne worked well off of each other.

Yes, totally random blog post. And hopefully yes, my blog about summer must-haves will be coming up soon. Since, well it’s June already.

Tomorrow…the TONY awards hosted by the awesome Neil Patrick Harris. Can’t wait!

Let’s Get Crazy

Happy Memorial Day to all our troops past and present. Thank you for all you do and have done for this country. We salute you!! As does this blog! :)

Anyways, watching the Cubbies…on my new tv! My boyfriend gave me an early birthday present: a flat screen HDTV!!! He found a good deal on it, so he got it now, and figured I wouldn’t want to wait. So now watching tv is even better than before. Everything is so clear! It’s not my eye sight! haha But yeah, awesome gift from the bestest boyfriend evah! Now, all I need to do is switch to AT&T cable.

So, to start out the week, here are some things I am into lately:

-German Bands: Cinema Bizzare and Tokio Hotel

-Benefit Bad Gal Mascara in plumb. Great for green-eyed women and men!

-Gladiator sandals that lace up the leg. Well, gladiator sandals in general

-Maxi dresses

-Memoirs

-70s fashion advertisements

-Anne Hathaway movies

-Long walks

-Starbucks passion lemonade (perfect for summer!!)

-Tye-dye

Annnnnd that’s about it! It’s Lauren Conrad’s second to last episode of The Hills tonight. I need to stop watching. But I just can’t! I am, however, excited for several Bravo programs: Top Chef Masters and NYC Prep, which is the real-life version of Gossip Girl minus Kristen Bell’s wonderful narration. And of course, an actual gossip girl Web site!

That’s Money Honey

I’m baaaack! Ha You would think being unemployed and all would mean blog-time aplenty, but apparently not. But that should all change. Popculturegrrrrrrrl is back and clearly way too excited about it. Anyways, just learned some shady things happening over at my former place of employment and let me tell you, I am glad I am gone! But otherwise, I am still on the hunt for a job and have been babysitting a lot, which is great. And reading and taking walks. And I finally now have a suit that matches. I bought one at Anne Taylor Loft, but the blacks were off. So today I went and brought the jacket with and found pants…on sale! Woo! They are a wee bit ill-fitting because they aren’t lowrise and if pants aren’t low rise they just don’t work on me. Well, that and I have a booty. But yes, matching suit. Hurray.

Next item on the agenda, catching up on TV: in a nutshell. Gossip Girl season finale sucked until the last 10 minutes, 24 season finale was lack luster, bawled at the series finale of Prison Break, loved Fringe, loved Lost, loved Castle, and loved Dollhouse. And Dollhouse has been renewed. YESSSSS! So excited! And Ugly Betty has been renewed and is moving to Fridays. The last couple episodes have been great. Typical Betty. And tonight…HENRY returns.

So who else is super excited for So You Think You Can Dance, which starts tonight?! I have a feeling future blogs will probably be devoted to the show. Also, is Swingtown coming back? Should I watch I’m a Celeb, Get Me Out of Here? Oh, and final two episodes, with Lauren Conrad on the Hills. AND Audrina and Chris Pine are dating? Um, what? She has ceiling eyes.

Went to the Cubs game over the weekend…was really fun. In the bleachers so it was tools galore. What is it with guys who feel the need to attend Cubs games with their collars popped, designer jeans, sunglasses they clearly stole from their sisters, and props. Seriously, one guy had a pipe. Like an old-man pipe. Um, what? Yeah, soooo lame.

Alrighty, more photos coming soon. I just need to find some cool ones that aren’t just of moi. And also, the new tv show Glee…is pure awesomeness! And loosely based after my high school’s show choir, which I was in with the tv show’s writer. LOVED the shout out to Ken Tanaka (RIP).

I can’t help myself I’m addicted to a life of material…

So recently, since the lay off, instead of throwing myself a pity party, I have a dance party. Lady GaGa usually does the trick. Seriously. I don’t think I will ever get sick of the song ‘Just Dance.” I wish I had seen her in concert when she was here. I heard it was amazing!

Anyways, SO, back to the grind. Now that I have time on my hands there is just no excuse for not writing on this thing. I mean how else am I going to become an Internet ‘it’ grrrrl right?! Right. So start leaving comments. Except if you are spamming me. I get liek a zillion ‘please moderate’ e-mails a day from spammers. Its beyond annoying. Or sometimes the comments get through and then things like Viagra and Cialis leave me comments. Awesome.

Tonight is Gossip Girl! Can we back track to last week for a second though. How fug was that dress that Serena wore to her mom’s party? For some reason, I feel like the wardrobe department always gets it right for Blair but its iffy with some of the things they throw on Miss Blake Lively. I mean yes, everything looks great on her, but that doesn’t mean the piece itself does. But anyways, tonight, more antics with Poppy and Gabriel. And Georgina. And fighting between Nate and Chuck. Sigh. If only my life were half as glamourous.

Anyways, I am in need for a good bronzer. Anyone know a good brand that is relatively cheap? Normally I would go to Mac, but you know, trying to save. I was thinking about trying the Ulta brand. Their products are usually good to me. haha

Rick Castle and Jack Bauer also are on the agenda tonight. As is fake drama on the Hills with the fake aftermath of the fake hook up between the Brodster and Audrina. Woo!

Pictureeeeesss. Sorry if they are repeats from Facebook.

xoxo

Me and Charles Manson Like the Same Ice Cream…

Not really. It’s a line in a Tori song. I can not wait until her new album comes out. Her newest single Welcome to England is amazing. Love it. Love her.

So yeah, your popculture pal has just been laid off. :( Fifteen people from my company were laid off (at once), which is 25 percent of my company. Yikes. So yeah, I’m at home and now have plenty of time to blog. Right now I am job searching and trying to get some babysitting, dog/cat sitting, dog walking gigs. But I don’t have a car. So if you live in the city (Chicago) let me know. I’m in Lakeview. I charge $10 an hour. Maybe a wee bit more if there are more kids and they are older. I have experience with infants and special needs children. Hit me up in  the comment section if you need a sitter or have a friend that needs a sitter. I have references!

Anyways…Oh Lost. Thank you for giving us answers we already knew. But love seeing Daniel Farraday and his craziness back on my screen. Miles, just admit to Marvin that you are his son. He will believe you and also maybe do something cool with dual bunnies.

Have some pics to post but will do that later as I gotta get moving with my day. I feel like such a bum. I don’t think it has fully sunk in yet that I am unemployed. Oy. Positive thoughs. And chocolate. Will help me get through this.

xoxo
